What are your working hours?
We have engineers available from 7am to 10pm, seven days a week. This means that we can provide computing support at a time that best suits you. We do not charge any extra for evening and weekend calls, and we do not have any call-out fee.
How much do you charge?
Our labour rates are £44 per hour including VAT. (That’s £37.45 per hour excluding VAT.) We charge in 30-minute increments, so if a job takes up to 30 minutes, you will be charged £22 labour. The cost of parts will be advised before we carry out any work. We are happy to give free, written quotations for any job - just ask!
What area do you cover?
For ‘per-call’ clients ie: home users and small business customers, we are happy travel as far north as Newcastle and as far south as Leeds. We also have corporate contract clients further afield.
Can I pay by credit card?
Yes; we accept payments via credit or debit card, by cheque with a valid banker’s card, by cash, or by Paypal. (There is a 4% charge for payments made via Paypal.)
I want to buy some computing equipment for my company. Can I claim the VAT back?
Yes! Response Computing is VAT registered (VAT registration number 829286785), and every sale (including labour-only) receives a VAT receipt. This is an important factor to consider when comparing prices of local computing companies, as they are not all VAT registered. Obviously, this means that business clients don’t get as good a deal when using companies that are not VAT registered, as they cannot claim the VAT back.
Are you the company that had the computing centre shop in Bedale?
Yes! From July 2003 to September 2005 we ran Response Computing Centre at 12a Market Place, Bedale. We were on the first floor, above Cockburn’s Butchers and Headquarter’s hairdressers.
Why have you closed your shop?
Computing is changing, and we have changed the way our company works in order to best meet the needs of our customers. Many people now have more than one computer at home or at work. We cannot fix networking or internet problems in a remote workshop, we need to be onsite with the client. We are experts in setting up networks, both wired and wireless, as well as in dealing with Broadband issues - these situations need us to be available to visit our clients, and therefore we no longer needed to run the computing centre. We still offer all the same excellent services, but now we come to you, instead of you coming to us! It also means that we no longer have to worry about our staff and customers carrying computers up and down those twisty stairs to the first floor in the computing centre!
Do you buy second-hand computers?
No. We don’t buy or sell any used computers or components. All our systems are custom-built by us, using brand new components from reputable suppliers. Customer satisfaction is extremely important to us, and using all new products enables our customers to benefit from warranty on everything that we sell.
Do you carry out most repairs on site?
Yes! Our objective is to get our clients up and working again as soon as possible, and we are able to complete most work on site. Occasionally we will need to take equipment back to our workshop in order to effect repairs, but we aim to return it as soon as possible.
What computing experience do you have?
Andrew Florence, the company owner, began working as an I.T. consultant in 1994. He has passed many and various computing courses in the UK and abroad. His training has taken him to America, Germany, Sweden and Canada - not to mention Bracknell and Basingstoke!
